A Year in Reflection
This year I have learned a lot, but the thing that I most improved on was my ability to draw figures somewhat realistically. Early in the year, I learned to do gesture drawings to build a base/skeleton for the figure. I have always struggled with getting proportions close to realistically, but gestural drawing has helped me balance figures. A similar thing has happened with faces. I can use gesture lines and basic shapes to make head and face shapes that look more realistic.

Abstraction Process
I am very confused with abstract expressionism. I never know when I am done, what would make something look better, or what colors are needed where. It is so confusing. With this work, I initially wanted an abstract take on impressionism, meaning light blues, yellows, greens, and some darker colors, which is why I wanted to use yellow as my starting color. The issue is that it got progressively darker and now it looks almost like I was painting an avocado or some other kind o

The Work of Amy Sherald
Amy Sherald with her work (Details Below) First Lady Michelle Obama , Amy Sherald, Oil on Linen, 2018 I like this portrait of Michelle Obama by Amy Sherald. I think it balances a flatter style while still giving depth to the subjects by using shadows. I also love her use of color. It feels unnaturally blue for the skin tones, but it works to pull everything together and pulls the color in dress out slightly more. Breonna Taylor, Amy Sherald, 2020, Oil on Linen "I don’t think

Composition,Shadows, and my Still Life
I struggled very early on with this project. First, I had trouble picking a composition. Although I know the basic rules of composition, I still have trouble knowing when a composition is interesting. There is no voice in my head that says "This is interesting. It will work" or "This is a boring composition." I think I might be too detail focused because my mind gets stuck on the objects themselves. If they are interesting, then the work as a whole is interesting. Final Compo

Process Post: Oil Painting
I am starting oil painting. I have done a few layers of the grisaille here. It took me a while to find an interesting composition. I am scared to color the mixtape earring, but I am excited about Peter Pan. I like oil painting a lot already. Beginning Composition

Sculpture and my Self Portrait
I enjoyed doing sculpture, but this project was very frustrating. I worked hard to get a good likeness and worked with references, but every time I looked at my progress, I could see glaring errors. I did like seeing the work look more human as I went along, but I worry that that human doesn't look anything like me. Despite this, I would do this again if I could, but I would try to get other people's opinions on my likeness because I struggle with getting the reality down.

Artist Copy
I struggled trying to get the folds in the fabric correct and the proportions of the face correct. I ended up getting pretty close, but the face feels a bit squashed.
